I have been a long time severe headache sufferer and today my doctor prescribed Elavil. I have never taken this med before and was wondering if anyone has taken it to prevent headaches/migraines? I have been on Topomax before and really liked the outcome but not the side effects.

I took Elavil for severe migraines for a few years. It worked okay for awhile, but I eventually got immune to it. It didn’t work nearly as well as Topamax, however, but it also didn’t have the side effects. The main side effect Elavil had on me was weight gain. There’s another drug similiar to Topamax called Zonegran. I’m on it now, and the only effect it’s having on me so far is a huge decrease in appetite.
Amitriptyline is the generic of Elavil.
Anyone who told you the answer would be accused of aiding and abetting suicide. Not just yours, because you may be joking (it’s a very sick joke, friend!), but someone else who might read the answer.
My Steve committed suicide last December 16, and I’m still not over it. Maybe I never will be, in the sense of filling that hole left in my life. I cannot be a party to assisting suicide.
