Alcohol is a depressant, and you are taking meds to deal with mood swings so you should not be adding additional mood inhibitors with the alcohol.

This is one reason why anticonvulsants are much better treatment for bipolar in my opinion! Antipsychotics are fine as add on and emergency meds, but I’m glad that my doc draws the line there (consistent with US and UK guidelines).
In my experience, all antipsychotics at higher doses cause some amount of sexual dysfunction. But, it really depends on how your body relates to the med, and most likely, what other meds you are on. There really isn’t an answer as to which will be better for you, and it’s possible that you wouldn’t have a problem with either.
