I have been taking 600 mg of Lithium and 500 mg of Depakote now for a few months. Essentially when you take these types of medications they change your brain chemistry, and can change how your persecption of things. Your brain may be thinking that’s in in starvation mode, meaning you’re not getting enough to eat, so it’s trying to hold onto every calorie it can. Even if you ARE getting enough to eat, because your internal “wiring” has been altered, your brain is getting a false sense of reality. Another option too may be that you’re retaining water. I’m not sure why humans retain water, except in an example when you consume too much salt, you body needs to flush it out by holding more water. If you’re staying at a stable weight, or have gain less than 10 lbs, i wouldn’t worry about it. If it bothers you or you’re gaining a lot of weight, definately talk to your doctor because the medication you’re on may be the wrong one for you. Good luck!
My daughter is 16. She’s been epileptic since she was 7. She’s been on the same dose of meds, depakote and tri-leptil, for at least 3 years.
